OpenMEV: Toby's Solution

How Toby replaces closed, extractive MEV systems with a transparent marketplace governed by the community, and the products that make it work.

MEV on Solana is a $10B+ opportunity locked behind private infrastructure. The value exists. The problem is who captures it and how. OpenMEV is Toby's answer: an open marketplace for MEV opportunities on Solana, where anyone can participate and the community sets the rules.

No gatekeepers. No closed auctions. No extractive middlemen.

What Is OpenMEV?

OpenMEV is an open, permissionless MEV-capturing infrastructure layer for Solana. Three properties define it:

  1. Permissionless. Any searcher, validator, or staker can participate. No whitelists, no invite-only access. Competition happens on merit.

  2. Governed. $TOBY token holders control the system through the OpenMEV Council. Fee parameters, auction rules, and protocol upgrades are decided by the community, not a foundation or a single operator.

  3. Fair. Harmful MEV patterns like sandwich attacks are filtered at the protocol level. Beneficial strategies (arbitrage, liquidations) are encouraged. Rewards flow back to the participants who generate value.

The protocol takes a 5% fee on MEV rewards. Everything else is distributed to validators, stakers, and searchers.

How It Works

OpenMEV connects every participant in Solana's MEV supply chain into a single, transparent flow.

Searchers → Block Chef → Validators → Stakers
    ↑ |
└──── OtterFlow data ←── Validator Optimizer

Here's the full cycle:

  1. MEV Searchers identify profitable opportunities (arbitrage, liquidations, and other strategies) using real-time data from OtterFlow.

  2. Block Chef receives bundles from searchers through its two-layer system. Head Chef filters and tags bundles against OpenMEV guidelines, rejecting harmful patterns like sandwiches. Sous Chef auctions approved bundles and assembles partial block proposals for validators.

  3. Validators running the Toby-Solana Client execute the winning bundles. They earn MEV tips on top of standard block rewards.

  4. Stakers deposit SOL and receive genSOL, a liquid staking token that earns combined staking + MEV yield automatically.

  5. Validator Optimizer continuously delegates stake to top-performing validators using three novel performance filters. Capital flows to the best infrastructure.

  6. OtterFlow / Laser Stream provides refined data feeds to searchers at 30-50% lower hardware costs than alternatives. The searcher ecosystem stays competitive and accessible.

Every participant benefits. Searchers get fair access. Validators get stake and MEV tips. Stakers get better yield. The ecosystem gets transparency.

Key Principles

Principle
What It Means

Open access

Permissionless auction, no gatekeeping, no minimum requirements beyond Solana's own

No sandwich attacks

Harmful MEV patterns are filtered at the protocol level before reaching validators

Fair rewards

Value distributed across stakers, validators, and searchers, not concentrated in private operators

Community-governed

Rules set by $TOBY holders through the OpenMEV Council, not by a centralized team

This isn't a tweak to existing systems. Current MEV infrastructure on Solana is permissioned and extractive by design. OpenMEV replaces the architecture entirely: open auction instead of private deals, community governance instead of operator control, filtered MEV instead of indiscriminate extraction.

The Product Suite

Each product handles a specific piece of the OpenMEV stack. They work together as an integrated system.

  • Block Chef receives, filters, and auctions MEV bundles through a two-layer system (Head Chef + Sous Chef) in an open, permissionless marketplace.

  • Validator Optimizer autonomously delegates staked assets to top-performing validators using three novel performance filters.

  • genSOL is a liquid staking token that earns combined staking + MEV yield without locking capital.

  • OtterFlow / Laser Stream is a refined data feed for MEV searchers, requiring 30-50% less hardware than alternatives.

  • OpenMEV Council is the community governance layer where $TOBY holders set rules, fees, and protocol parameters.

  • Toby-Solana Client is a Firedancer compatible validator client that integrates natively with the OpenMEV stack for smooth participation.

Each product has a dedicated page with full technical detail. Start with Block Chef to understand how the auction works, or jump to genSOL if you're a staker looking for yield.

Why It Matters

Solana's MEV market is growing fast. The question isn't whether MEV gets captured. It's whether that value stays concentrated in private hands or gets distributed to the people who actually make the network work.

OpenMEV makes fair distribution possible. Open auction. Filtered MEV. Community governance. Real yield for participants, not just operators.

The future of MEV on Solana is open. Toby builds the system that gets us there.
