Solana is a super-fast, Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain, and at the heart of it are validators. These validators are key players keeping everything running smoothly—they verify transactions, create new blocks, and keep the network secure. Validators stake their SOL tokens (Solana’s currency), and in return, they earn rewards through inflationary rewards, MEV (Maximum Extractable Value), and block production.
How Solana Validators Work
Staking: Validators lock up their SOL tokens as a security deposit to keep things honest.
Transaction Verification: They make sure each transaction is legit and prevent fraud.
Block Creation: Validators create blocks of transactions, keeping the chain going.
Rewards: They earn rewards!
Solana’s validators have some cool perks:
High throughput: Thanks to Solana’s Proof of History (PoH), it handles thousands of transactions per second.
Heavy-duty hardware: Validators need high-powered machines to keep up with the speed.
Decentralization: Over 70% of Solana’s stake is hosted on non-dominant cloud providers, which helps with decentralization.
Multiple clients: Solana now has different validator clients to ensure resilience.
In 2024, around 67% of the SOL supply was staked, with an average reward rate of 7.7%.
What's Next for Solana Validators?
Solana is planning some exciting changes, like allocating 100% of priority fees to block proposers, making it more rewarding for validators. They’re also reducing inflation, which could make SOL more valuable.
Enter the Toby Network, which is all about making staking and MEV rewards on Solana more accessible and profitable for everyone. Here’s how:
Liquid Staking Tokens (LST): Toby lets users stake SOL and get tSOL, so they can keep earning while staking.
Validator Optimizer: Toby delegates SOL to the best-performing validators, ensuring max returns.
Relayer Network: It helps MEV searchers by cutting down on latency, making transactions faster and smoother.
Decentralized MEV Marketplace: Toby is opening up the MEV marketplace, giving more opportunities and better rewards. (Check out how Open-MEV works here)
Toby is addressing some of the big issues on Solana, unlocking $52 billion worth of staked SOL that isn’t currently liquid. This means more people can get in on the action and earn better rewards.
