# Why Pearls are better than points

**Background**

Points programs are a popular way to kickstart both on-chain and off-chain activities for new protocols. Typically, participants earn points that they can later swap for tokens after the token generation event (TGE).

However, Pearls stands out from other points programs in crypto because of its transparency and the way it manages participant expectations. Unlike programs where the rewards can be unclear, Pearls ensures that everything is out in the open, and brings a fresh and fun experience to earn rewards on-chain.

#### Pearls

Toby Network's governance will set aside a specific percentage of future tokens as rewards for Pearl Rewards participants. From the very start, everyone will be able to see the total rewards pool, so there are no surprises.

The exact process for converting Pearls into tangible rewards will be revealed during each season. This will depend on the total amount of SOL staked within the Toby ecosystem during that time, ensuring full transparency.

#### Listening to the Community

When designing Pearls, we did our homework. We talked to our current users, members of the Solana community, participants from other points programs, and thought leaders in the space to really understand what matters most.

The overwhelming feedback was that the most important aspect of any rewards program isn't the flashy graphics or game-like features. Instead, it's about the "Effort" ratio. People were frustrated by programs where they had to put in a lot of work only to get less-than-expected rewards because things weren’t clear.

With Pearls, we’re making a commitment to transparency. Our goal is to make sure everyone knows exactly what to expect and how they can earn their rewards. No guesswork, just clear, straightforward information.
